Kendall County Animal Control Rules
Persons are prohibited from owning, possessing, or harboring a dangerous wild animal within the county.
Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies by the time the animal is four months old and annually thereafter.
All vaccinated animals must be issued a rabies tag by a veterinarian and it is to be attached to a properly fitting collar on the animal.
Incidents of animal bites will be reported and any person with knowledge of an animal bite must report it to the local authority.
Mandatory rabies quarantine and testing procedures are also established for all animals involved in a bite incident.
Dogs and cats are to be under reasonable effective restraint on the owners premises and not be allowed to run at large.
Stray dogs and cats are declared a public nuisance and shall be captured and impounded.
A dog that is attacking, is about to attack, or has recently attacked livestock may be destroyed, detained or impounded by any person witnessing the attack, without liability for damages.
Dogs and cats seized by animal control personnel shall be impounded in the City of Boerne animal shelter, and can be claimed by calling (830) 249-2456.
Impounded animals with a rabies tag will be kept for not less than three working days. Animals without a rabies tag will be kept for not less than 72 hours.
Critically sick, injured animals or animals that can not be contained and pose a danger to humans or other animals may be immediately destroyed.
If the identity of the owner can be identified from tags the owner shall be immediately notified.
No animal will be released to an owner unless the animal has a current rabies vaccination and all applicable fees for impoundment and emergency treatment have been paid.
Any animal not claimed by its owner becomes the property of the animal control facility and these animals may be adopted or euthanized.
