Firearms Safety

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has recently received numerous calls where individuals have been hunting and discharging firearms too close to subdivisions and residences.

Last month a 52 year old Kendall County man was shot in his leg while he was sitting on his back porch in the 100 block of Arrowhead Lane.

Many of the complaints that have been received are in or adjacent to sub-divisions where neighbors are shooting or hunting without being aware of the close proximity of households and areas where people are occupying.

All hunters or persons who are thinking about discharging a firearm are urged to use extreme caution, and common sense, before beginning and should be absolutely sure you have identified your target and cleared the area beyond your target.

This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential threats and determine that you have a safe backstop or background before you use a firearm.

If you experience any instances where bullets or ammunition is being directed toward you or your property you are urged to call 911 for an immediate law enforcement response.
