How to Protect Your Home From Burglaries
At Home
1) Do not keep large amounts of money or other valuables at home.
2) Lock outside doors at all times, even when on the premises.
3) Do not open the door to strangers.
4) Install dead bolts.
5) When you move into a new house or apartment, have new locks installed.
6) Check door moldings for tight fit.
7) Doors should be hinged so no pins can be removed from outside.
8) Replace locks with the double-cylinder type (which also need keys on the inside), particularly doors with glass panels.
9) Keep garage and tool shed locked.
10) Remove all obstructions in your yard that could conceal a burglar breaking into your house.
Away From Home
1) Purchase a timer to switch lights on and off.
2) Arrange to have mail, newspaper discontinued or taken care of by a responsible neighbor or family member.
3) Inform neighbors and local law enforcement of your traveling plans so that special attention will paid to your home.
Help Law Enforcement Help You
1) Write down the license plate number of vehicles used by suspicious person's in your neighborhood.
2) Keep an inventory of valuables so you will know immediately if anything is missing. Include photographs and serial numbers of other costly items.
