Patrol Deputy Job Description
The Patrol Deputy is responsible for the protection of life and property by detecting criminal activities, investigating crime scenes, arresting suspects, working traffic accidents, and for maintaining law and order. The Patrol Deputy also performs related work as required.
Major Duties
- Patrol an assigned district by vehicle to detect and deter criminal activities.
- Dispatched by radio to handle emergency calls; routine complaints; alarms and take necessary action. Investigate crime scenes by taking reports, questioning complainants, questioning witnesses and gathering evidence.
- Investigate traffic accidents. Enforce traffic laws by stopping violators and issuing proper citations. Operate radar equipment accurately. Arrest any person involved in unlawful acts. Book in and search prisoners. Enforce all local, state, and federal laws by warning, citations, or arrest. Appear as witness in court. Prepares a log of activities during shift and makes various other case reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid Texas Operator's License
- Hold a Current Basic Peace Officer's License
- Pass State Required Physical Exam
- Pass State Required Drug Screening
- Pass State Required Psychological Exam
- No Class B or Above Convictions
- Strong Moral Character
- Ability to follow and understand oral instructions departmental policy, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other law enforcement agencies and the public
- Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick effective and reasonable course of action
- Ability to learn the use and care of firearms and specialized equipment
Detention Officer Job Description
The Detention Officer provides custodial care necessary for the security and well being of inmates confined in the Kendall County jail. Performs duties by preparing inmates for transport to court appearances, processing new inmates, assisting victim's advocates, supervising inmate visitation, distributing food to inmates, conducting security checks, overseeing inmate sentence calculation and releases by reviewing court commitments, handling control room operations, and reviewing and verifying inmates trust fund accounts. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Corporal, Sergeant or Detention Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Completed the Basic Corrections Course
- Pass State Required Physical Exam
- Pass State Required Drug Screening
- Pass State Required Psychological Exam
- No Class B or Above Convictions
